Pack Bats Down Towson to Move to 20-1

The #1 N.C. State Wolfpack baseball team took on the Towson University Tigers at 6:00pm on March 19, 2019 at Doak Field at Dail Park . The Wolfpack dominated the game as they downed the Tigers 11-1 in nine innings to now make them 20-1 on the regular season.

The bats for the Wolfpack and the Tigers at the start of the game were on fire with there being a total of 6 hits and the wolfpack putting 3 runs on the board. Unlike the Tigers, the Wolfpack continued to dominate the scoreboard with Evan Edwards hitting a home run in the 3rd inning and a 3 run home run by Will Wilson in the 7th inning. Jonny Butler had an allstar performance for the Wolfpack as he went 4 for 4 at the plate with 4 runs, 4 hits, and 2 RBI’s. As for the Tigers they had 10 hits compared to the Wolfpacks 13 hits but could only score one time in the fourth inning.

Not only were the bats on fire tonight for the Wolfpack, field play was also crucial in the 11-1 win against the Tigers. Matthieu Gauthier was the starting pitcher for the Wolfpack but was soon taken out in the first half of the first inning. Nolan Clenney came in as relief with six strikeouts in four innings. David Harrison and Canaan Silver also pitched for the Wolfpack with a combined 5 strikeouts in 4 innings. Andrew Tillery was the closer for the Wolfpack and secured the 11-1 win. The Tigers went through five pitchers with four strikeouts throughout nine innings. The infield and outfield for the Wolfpack had a perfect game with no errors in the field. The Tigers had two errors in the field by Zach Piazza and Dirk Masters that affected the game.

The Wolfpack will get back to ACC play at Miami for a three game weekend March 22nd – 24th of 2019. The Wolfpack will be back at Doak Field at Dail Park on Tuesday March 26, 2019 against Elon University at 6:00pm.
