Wolfpack Softball Ends Six-Game Skid With A Win Against Seahawks

In Wednesday’s game against the UNC Wilmington Seahawks, the NC State Wolfpack prevailed at Curtis & Jacqueline Dail Stadium in Raleigh, North Carolina with a 3-2 victory. The Wolfpack get their 17th win on the season, and a much needed win after losing six straight games against tough ACC competition in Virginia Tech and Florida State. This was the first and only meeting between the two teams this season, with NC State winning the strikeout battle 14-5.

From the first pitch at 6:00pm, both teams dominated the defensive side, with UNCW giving up 6 hits and NC State giving up just 3. The game got its first score in the bottom of the 2nd inning when NC State’s Brigette Nordburg scored on a wild pitch thrown by UNCW’s Rylee Pate, going up 1-0. Devin Wallace came up big for the Pack on the mound today as she threw 9 strikeouts and helped keep NC State in the lead the whole game. Logan Morris added to the Wolfpack’s lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning with an RBI double increasing the lead 2-0. UNCW would not back down as Janel Gamache answered in the top of the 4th with a RBI double that brought NC State’s lead down to 1. The Wolfpack got a spark from Angie Rizzi in the bottom half of the same inning with a solo home run, extending the lead to 3-1. The Seahawks bounced back in the top of the 5th with a much-needed RBI single from Rachel Willis driving in a run and cutting the lead to 3-2. UNCW did all they could to gain more momentum in the game, but the clutch pitching of the Pack’s Sydney Nester was too much to handle as she struck out 5 in the final two innings without allowing a hit, ultimately leading to a 3-2 for the Pack.

NC State travels next to a 3-game series at Boston College over the weekend and looking for their first conference win on the season. The Pack will be back at Curtis & Jacqueline Dail Stadium on Tuesday, April 2 against Winthrop at 6:00pm.
