NC State Men’s Soccer Rallies Late for an Overtime Tie Against #6 Louisville

RALEIGH – Coming off of a loss to Pittsburgh on September 25th, #12 NC State (6-2) fought hard through double overtime against #6 Louisville (6-1-1) to tie the game 2-2 on Alumni Night for NC State on September 28th. In the 22nd and 23rd minutes of the first half, it looked scary for the Wolfpack, but goalie #1 Leon Krapf, made not only one, but two saves to keep the Wolfpack early in the game. Louisville scored in the 27th minute with a goal from #12 Cherif Dieye to put them up 1-0. The second half was a brutal back and forth battle with NC State struggling to convert opportunities and defense controlling the game. NC State began to rally late in the second half with a header by #22 Aidan Foster to tie the game in the 75th minute followed by a goal by #15 Gabriel Machado assisted by #7 Tanner Roberts to take the lead in the 85th minute. NC State could not hold the lead as Louisville #10 Tate Schmitt scored to tie the game and sending the game into overtime. Overtime was anticlimactic, a back and forth battle occured to end the game in a tie.

Head Coach George Kiefer said about going forward and necessary changes, “I think we have to get better defensively to be fair… win, lose, or draw we needed to tighten our midfield and that is going to happen…”
