NC STATE FALLS TO CAMPBELL IN FINAL MIDWEEK GAME, 5-3

RALEIGH, NC., (APRIL 7TH, 2019) – Ranked no. 17 NC State baseball fell to Campbell, 5-3 Tuesday evening at Doak Field as it concluded its midweek matchups for the season.

 

Junior Right-handed pitcher Alec Barger started on the mound for the Wolfpack picking up two strikeouts and six hits. Barger picks up the loss for the evening making his record 2-1 on the season.

 

NC State exploded offensively in the second inning when freshman Tyler McDonough started it off with a single to left-field, followed by junior Brad Debo who doubled down the right-field line.

 

With no outs and runners on third and second, freshman Luca Tresh soared a sac-fly to the outfield, bringing in the first run of the game. Debo scored on a ground out to third base, putting the Wolfpack up 2-0 heading into the third.

 

The Camels wasted no time to come back to take the lead, 5-2 after multiple singles brought in their first run of the game, followed by a 3-run home run to right-field. After a double put Campbell in scoring position again with only one out, Baker Nelson was brought onto the mound to finish out the inning before a sac-fly gave the Camel’s its fifth run.

 

The Wolfpack started off the bottom of the seventh with a rally after Debo walked and Tresh singled to right-field, putting two runners on base. After a pitching change from the Camels, NC State retired the inning with two strikeouts and a fly ball.

 

NC State attempted one more comeback in the eighth after two singles and a walk loaded the bases with two away. Tresh took first base, walking in a run to close up Campbell’s lead 5-3. A strikeout ultimately ended the inning leaving three runners on base.

 

NC State will be back in action this weekend when it hosts Clemson in its final home series of the season at Doak Field. Friday’s first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with live coverage from ACC Network Extra.
