Men’s Rugby Did 10 Times Better with a 100-10 Win

RALEIGH – The NC State Men’s Rugby team started their season off strong with a huge win. In today’s matchup with the Radford Highlanders, the Wolfpack made their STATEment when they achieved a rarity in the sport by scoring 100 points. The final score of the home opener for the Men’s Rugby team was a staggering 100-10 in favor of the Wolfpack. The Pack dominated the field in today’s match both offensively and defensively, only allowing Radford to score 2 tries the entire game by working cohesively as a team.

Although the Radford Highlanders put forth a valiant effort, in the end, they just could not keep the Wolfpack contained. The Highlanders were unable to effectively stop the Wolfpack offense and the stellar defense by the Wolfpack proved to be too much as they gave it their all. Radford struggled defensively today, giving the Wolfpack many opportunities for breakout runs and ample scoring opportunities. The Wolfpack had their first of many successful tries and conversion kicks of the game within the first 5 minutes of play, scored by Greg Amaty and Noah Milchuck, respectively. They set the tone and pace for the rest of the game and followed their first scoring run with another soon after.

The Wolfpack offense also had a very strong showing and had many powerful runs down the field and the 100 point score was a result of the huge group effort put forth by the Wolfpack. Many different players contributed to the score of today’s game and, with multiple consecutive tries and conversions occurring in the game, NC State was able to run the score up. All around, today the Wolfpack gave an outstanding performance.

The Radford Highlanders were only able to score on an accidental turnover, with almost no coverage, and after a series of penalties that helped them to continue advancing forward down the field and into scoring range. Because of how consistent and strong the Wolfpack defense was during today’s matchup, they were able to keep Radford’s scoring to a minimum. NC State’s defense was stellar today, they almost completely shut down Radford’s offensive plays and they were very effective at keeping the Highlanders contained and out of scoring range. The Highlanders gave an impressive effort, but today they were severely overtaken by the strength of the Wolfpack.

The Wolfpack have started off their season on a very strong note and fans will be looking forward to seeing more great Rugby games from the team this year.
