Wolfpack Battle to a Draw Against In-State Rivals

RALEIGH – The Wolfpack took on the University of North Carolina Tar Heels in their final game of the season Saturday morning. Both sides were able to find the back of the net as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Wolfpack came out strong to open the game putting themselves in good position to take the lead. They took charge early getting scoring chances on multiple occasions, however they could not finish, missing the net wide with their best chance.

The Wolfpack’s passing was the main contributing factor as they connected on many through balls, but just could not get off a good shot before the Tar Heel defense closed in on them.

The Tar Heels appeared to score an early goal on a header, but it was waived off due to a foul for a push in the back that was called prior to the goal.

NC State tried to take back momentum as they broke through the defense with a stretch pass and scored a goal, but it was called back for being an offside play. Although the goal was called back, the Wolfpack were able to gain momentum that would lead to a goal.

In the 15th minute, a Wolfpack shot would hit the crossbar and the rebound would be cleaned up and put in for a 1-0 NC State lead. The Tar Heels would respond with a great scoring chance of their own, but the Wolfpack goaltender was able to steer the shot over the crossbar for a big save that would keep their lead.

NC State would have one more chance to score in the first half but the blast was saved by the Tar Heel goaltender keeping the score at 1-0 going into halftime.

The second half opened with good scoring chances for both teams, however neither could convert on their opportunity as the defenses would hold their ground, not allowing for either team to get off a shot on goal.

In the 56th minute, the Tar Heels were awarded a free kick from just outside the box. The kick missed wide as they spoiled their best chance at an equalizer to that point in the game. The Tar Heels would be able to tie the game in the 63rd minute finding the back of the net on a cross.

The Wolfpack battled the Tar Heels hard in their final game of the season. The teams played a very even game that was reflected on the scoreboard as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
