Lady Wolfpack Blows by Camels in Win

The North Carolina State Wolfpack (10-6) faced off against the Campbell Fighting Camels (4-12) on March 2, 2019. This was the first game of a double header at Dail Softball Stadium in Raleigh, NC on Saturday for the Wolfpack. The first of three meetings against the Camels this year ended with a NC State 8-0 win in 5 innings.

The Wolfpack were led by a strong performance from their starting pitcher Devin Wallace who got a win bringing her record to 4-3 on the season. She pitched all 5 innings with 7 strikeouts and only allowing one hit. They got off to a hot start in the top of the first retiring the first three batters. The fielding wasn’t the only thing clicking today for NC State their bats were also on fire from the very start. Sam Russ led the way with a crucial leadoff walk, then was able to steal second on a wild pitch. Brigette Nordberg followed her up with a single to center field allowing Russ to score. Soon after Logan Morris hit a 2-run homerun which was the first of four for the Wolfpack that evening.

Wallace continued her excellent performance at the top of the third with three strikeouts throughout the inning. NC state extended their lead at the bottom of the third with a 3-run shot to the left field netting from Jessica Moore to push the score to 6-0. The lady Wolfpack finished off the game in the fifth with two homeruns, one coming from Randi Farricker and the other from Angie Rizzi.

The fans, players and coaches were very pleased with the outcome of the game. The Wolfpack also defeated Charleston Southern afterwards bringing their total record of the NC State Invitational to 3-0. They will also face Campbell again on Sunday March 3rd, 2019 at 11:30am to try to extend their win streak to 8 games.
